"Wayamaya" (also known as "Waimea") is an unreleased song by Lana Del Rey. It was recorded in 2007 and leaked on August 6, 2015.

Background[]

A song titled "W" was uploaded to Del Rey's Myspace page in 2007, along with tracks such as "Jump", "Miss America", and "Kill Kill".[1] It is possible that "W" is an alternate title for "Wayamaya".[S 1]

Thematically, the song references Waimea Bay which is located in Haleiwa on the North Shore of O'ahu in the Hawaiian Islands at the mouth of the Waimea River. Waimea Valley extends behind Waimea Bay. Waimea means "reddish water" in Hawaiian.

ID3 tags in the original leaked file confirm that the track was recorded in 2007 and produced by Steven Mertens. Del Rey is listed as "Lana Rey" in the tags. The metadata also suggests the song is part of Relax27's Album; another featured song with this metadata is "When I'm with You". A second version of the song leaked on December 25, 2021. This version is included on a 20-track demo compilation put together by Del Rey in March 2009, titled Demo March 2009.

Live performances[]

Del Rey acknowledged the song during the Austin, Texas show of the LA to the Moon Tour on February 11, 2018, when a fan requested she perform it. Del Rey then sang a snippet of the chorus a cappella and added that she would consider performing the song at the Honolulu date of the tour, but never did.

Lyrics[]

Version 1[]

He was a big wave surfer livin' down by Waimea Bay
We had a few friends, never thought it would end

I remember an all-white day with eight-story waves
He said, "your eyes are gray" (Beautiful)
We were living on côtes de l'île
Low Cabriolet and sun, manta ray

Drivin' in our Mercury down to Waimea
Drivin' in our Mercury
Drivin' in our Mercury down to Waimea
Drivin' in our Mercury

I remember we came in May
And we changed our names to Lana and Ray
We be up 'til the sun rosé
I'm in gold lamé, your pink floral haze

Drivin' in your Mercury down to Waimea
Drivin' in your Mercury
Drivin' in your Mercury down to Waimea
Drivin' in your Mercury

Waikiki cove, Waikiki cove
Waikiki, Waikiki, Waikiki cove
Waikiki cove, Waikiki cove
Waikiki, Waikiki, Waikiki cove

Version 2[]

He was a big wave surfer livin' down by Waimea Bay
We had a few friends, never thought it would end

Oh, oh

I remember an all-white day with eight-story waves
He said, "your eyes are gray" (Beautiful)
We were living on côtes de l'île
Low Cabriolet and sun, manta ray

Drivin' in our Mercury down to Waimea
Drivin' in our Mercury
Drivin' in our Mercury down to Waimea
Drivin' in our Mercury

I remember we came in May
And we changed our names to Lana and Ray
We be up 'til the sun rosé
I'm in gold lamé, your pink floral haze

Drivin' in our Mercury down to Waimea
Drivin' in our Mercury
Drivin' in our Mercury down to Waimea
Drivin' in our Mercury

Waikiki cove, Waikiki cove (Hey, yeah)
Waikiki, Waikiki, Waikiki cove
Waikiki cove, Waikiki cove (Ooh, yo-ahh, ahh)
Waikiki, Waikiki, Waikiki cove (Yeah)
