NightBird Studios shared a message from Del Rey on their Twitter in 2015 in a tweet noting that "Flipside" had been recorded there. Del Rey mentions "Unidentified Flying Bill" in her note.

The song's title was again mentioned by a leaker on June 15, 2020. The song was originally speculated to have been recorded in 2011, but was later reliably said to have been recorded in 2013.

The title "Slow Burn" was also rumored, though this was also incorrect. The snippet was confirmed to be of "Unidentified Flying Bill" on October 26, 2020. A slightly longer version of the previously leaked snippet leaked on November 25, and another snippet leaked the following day. A short snippet of the song's intro leaked on April 1, 2021. Another two snippets leaked on July 7, 2021.

Lyrics

[Snippets]:
...life is so crazy...

...I can't take it,
but at least we've got the night...

...Bill takes me down to the beach
In the coat that he got from his father
He whispers to me that sometimes he thinks he sees things over the water
Like maybe UFOs or something...

...slow burn i'm hot like a fire
i'm sober but you're getting higher...
