Stove is the most recent attributed title to the upcoming tenth studio album and ninth major-label studio album by Lana Del Rey. It is scheduled to be released through Interscope and Polydor Records in late January 2026.
Background
Appearing on the April 2021 cover of Mojo, Del Rey expressed her interest in the country genre, telling the magazine that she had worked with Nikki Lane on various projects, including a collaborative country covers album and an album of folk songs. In the article, she went on to describe her taste as "stark and blue, somewhat outlaw", and cited Hank Williams, Bobbie Gentry, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Marty Robbins, and Johnny Paycheck as sources of inspiration.[2]
On August 6, 2022, Del Rey posted "hope you guys like country" on her Instagram story,[3] potentially hinting at a release of the album. Instrumentalist Will Allison and audio engineers Chase Brandon and Colin Lott recorded 3-4 songs together with Del Rey at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama, over a three-day period in late July 2023.[4]
Del Rey first announced the title of the album as Lasso on January 31, 2024, while attending the NMPA x Billboard Songwriter Awards + Showcase.[5] She said of the album:
- "If you can't already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. We're going country. It's happening. That's why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years."
At the 2024 Ivor Novellos on May 24, 2024, Del Rey said in an interview with NME magazine that she had "no idea" what direction the album will take. Lyrically, it will be more easy and fun, less self-revealing than her previous three albums, with Del Rey describing it as more "melodic & American Songbook Style" in nature. She also considered riding horses on stage.[6]
Dolly Parton, Quavo, Nikki Lane, Ian Walsh, and Luke Laird are other artists suspected of collaborating with Del Rey on this album.
In an interview with Vogue magazine, Del Rey said of the album's production:[7]
- "If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production—which again, so many of my songs already are."
On November 25, 2024, the same day she announced she'd be embarking on an all-stadium tour throughout the UK and Ireland, she announced the album, now with the title The Right Person Will Stay, would be released on May 21, 2025 and that a song titled "Henry" would be pre-released.[8][1]
In a now-deleted Instagram reel from April 11, 2025, following the official release of the album's lead single, "Henry, Come On", Del Rey would announce that the release date and title of the album had changed. She subsequently announced the following week to see release of the album's next single, "Bluebird".[9]
On August 13, 2025, Del Rey posted a video of herself listening and singing along to "All About Ethel" with the caption "Track 13", tagging Jack Antonoff.[10]
In an interview with W magazine on August 26, 2025, Del Rey revealed that the album is now titled Stove. She also shared that the track "Stars Fell on Alabama" was inspired by her husband, Jeremy Dufrene, calling him "the most impactful person in my life." She explained that the delay was due to adding six more songs to the tracklist, which turned out to be more autobiographical than anticipated. Del Rey described the album as having a strong country flair, saying:[11]
- "Eight years ago, when I was looking to make a country record, no one else was thinking about country. Now everyone is going country! I've asked myself, 'Should I retire all my snakeskin boots? Should I put my cowboy hats in storage?'"
