"Queen of the Gas Station" (originally titled "Queen" and registered as "Gas Station"[citation needed]) is a song by Lana Del Rey from her debut studio album, Lana Del Ray. It was produced by David Kahne.

Background[]

Three demos of the song are available; the first being an acoustic version, the second a studio demo, and the third, a second studio demo titled "Queen". This version was recorded on October 12, 2007, and produced by Steven Mertens and leaked online July 1, 2017. All versions are assumed to have been recorded in 2007. The song's instrumental leaked on November 19, 2013.

Live performances[]

Del Rey has performed the song live two known times throughout her career. The first known performance of the song took place on January 14, 2009, at The National Underground in Manhattan and the second known performance of the song took place on February 17, 2009, at Arlene's Grocery.

Music video[]

Del Rey uploaded a music video for the song to her YouTube channel on May 5, 2009, though later privatized it.[1] Unlike the majority of her pre-fame music videos, this video has not resurfaced after she took it down from public viewing. The video is speculated to have a similar style to most of her earlier music videos, and feature clips of Del Rey herself singing along to the song and clips she gathered from miscellaneous films and videos.

A clip of the video can be seen in the homemade music video for "National Anthem". Another clip of the music video surfaced on October 30, 2021[2] and a third clip from the music video surfaced on May 16, 2022.[3] A fourth clip leaked on July 4, 2023.[4]

Lyrics[]

Album version[]

Gimme coffee, king-size cup
Come on, kitty cat, fill 'er up
"What's your name, little buttercup?"
That's for me to know and you to make up

Love casinos, Indian reservations
But, baby, if you love me
Take me to the gas station
Gas station

Look at you smokin' in them neon lights
Under the thunder, yo, you look so nice
Make me wonder how you spend them nights
Me, I spend them lookin' for men I like
Like you, like you, like you

Love casinos, Indian reservations
But, baby, if you love me
Take me to the gas station
Take me to the gas station

Gimme coffee, Utah love
I'm the kinda girl you dream of
And I'm tryna tell you what I dream of
And that's gas stations

With Slurpee machines and organs playin'
Preferably with smokin' inside, if you can swing it
(Swing it, swing it, swing it)

And I'd be real pleased
If we could find one just like it
Again, again, again
Again, again, again
Again, again, again
Again, again

Love casinos, Indian reservations
But, baby, if you love me
Take me to the gas station
Gas station

Gas station, gas station, gas station
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Demo version one[]

Gimme coffee, king-size cup
Come on, kitty cat, fill 'er up
"What's your name, little buttercup?"
That's for me to know and you to make up

Love casinos, Indian reservation
But, baby, if you love me
Take me to the gas station

Look at you smokin' in them neon lights
Under the thunder, oh, you look so nice
Make me wonder how you spend them nights
Me, I spend them lookin' for men I like
Like you, like you, like you

Love casinos, Indian reservation
But, baby, if you love me
Take me to the gas station

I'm the kinda girl you dream of
And I'm tryna tell you what I dream of
And that's gas stations

With Slurpee machines and organs playin'
Preferably with smokin' inside, if you can swing it
Maybe with a post office attached to it
Chickens runnin' in and out of it
Saw one like that in New Mexico on Route 66

And I'd be real pleased
If we could find one just like it
Again, again, again, again
Again, again, again, again

Love casinos, Indian reservation
But, baby, if you love me
Take me to the gas station
Love casinos, Indian reservation
But, baby, if you love me
Take me to the gas station
