Lana Del Ray track listing
"Brite Lites" "Smarty"
"Put Me in a Movie" (originally known as "Little Girls") is the eleventh track on Lana Del Ray, the debut studio album by Lana Del Rey. The song was recorded by written by Del Rey and later produced by David Kahne. It was part of the demo tape, No Kung Fu, which Del Rey sent to various producers in order to find a producer for her her album. Two alternative versions of the song exist, the acoustic version on No Kung Fu, and a studio demo with alternate lyrics.

Writing and inspiration

The song's lyrics were written by Del Rey herself, and the lyrics have no other admitted author, however, it is apparent that the lyrics are inspired by Lolita, a literary classic by Vladimir Nabokov, as are many of her lyrics including "Diet Mountain Dew" ("Baby, put on heart-shaped sun glasses...") and a song of hers by the same name, "Lolita". The obvious lyrics inspired by the book are mentioned primarily in the chorus, with the lyrics "C'mon, you know you like (good)! little girls, you can be my daddy..." which relate to the plot, where the book's protagonist (Humbert Humbert) becomes the step-father of a young girl which he becomes attracted to. However, the song primarily relates Clare Quilty, who is a doppleganger of Humbert and kidnaps Lolita during the plot. "You can be my daddy..." relates to both characters as both act as father figures to Lolita. The title itself, "Put Me In A Movie" relates to only Quilty as he is a child pornographer who takes an interest in Lolita.

Cross-references

  • The lyric "lights, camera, action" also appears in various incarnations in many other songs such as "Heavy Hitter" and "Daddy Issues".
  • The phrase "little girls", an alternative title to the song, is also used countless times in songs by Lana Del Rey such as in "I Don't Wanna Go".
  • An old stage name used by Lana, "Sparkle Jump Rope Queen", comes from this song.

Lyrics

  • Final

Lights, camera, acción,
If he likes me, takes me home.
Lights, camera, acción,
If he likes me, takes me home.
Lights, camera, acción,
If he likes me, takes me home.

Come on, you know you like,
(Good)! Little girls.
Come on, you know you like,
(Good)! Little girls.

You can be my daddy,
You can be my daddy.

Lights, camera, acción,
He didn’t know he’d have this much fun.
Lights, camera, acción,
He didn’t know he’d have this much fun.
Lights, camera, acción,
He didn’t know he’d have this much fun.

Come on, you know you like,
(Good)! Little girls.
Come on, you know you like,
(Good)! Little girls.

You can be my daddy,
You can be my daddy.

You my little sparkle jump rope queen,
You my little sparkle.

You my little sparkle jump rope queen,
You my little sparkle.

Lights, camera, acción,
You know I can’t make it on my own.

Put me in a movie,
(Put me in a movie),
(Come on you know you like).
Put me in a movie
(Little girls, come on),
(You know you like).

You can be my daddy,
You can be my daddy,
Put me in a movie,
You can be my daddy.

(Put me in a movie),
(Put me in a movie).
