Poolside (stylized as POOLSIDE) is a short film directed by Aaron C. Peer starring Lana Del Rey. It was filmed over a couple of days around the 19th of June, 2010, with locations including the Hershey Motel in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Two years later, following Del Rey's rise to fame, the film was premiered at the 16th Picturestart Film Festival in New York on June 5, 2012. Poolside won the Audience Choice Award for Best Short Film and was first runner-up for the Audience Choice Best Actor award (Charles Alberto).
In November 2012, Peer was interviewed by GQ France and spoke about Del Rey's involvement in the short film: "[Lana] helped me create her character, notably on the level of diction and performance".[citation needed] Del Rey is credited under her birth name, Lizzy Grant. The film was released online shortly after the festival — first via Vimeo on July 31 and then on YouTube on August 1, 2012. It was produced on a $400 budget, with contributions from friends and family.
On March 5, 2022, Del Rey posted a video edit on her Instagram story featuring the film accompanied by "Trash Magic".
On February 4, 2025, Peer uploaded a new version of Poolside to his official YouTube channel. This version includes the original voice-over and score recorded in 2010, which had not appeared in previous public releases. In the video description, Peer notes that the footage and audio are nearly 15 years old and that the film has seen different versions over the years.
Plot[]
The movie talks about Ray and JP, who work during the summer cleaning the pools of affluent individuals. One day, Ray becomes peculiarly fascinated with the private lives of his clients. Del Rey is portraying Lisa, the daughter of a wealthy client of the protagonists.
