"Lover's Fate" is a song by Alice Brightsky, originally released as a single in 2006. The song would later be included on her debut studio album, Box of Me in 2013 and her EP, Lover's Fate in 2015. The song features backing vocals from Lana Del Rey, then known as Lizzy Grant.
Background[]
Brightsky and Del Rey first met in 2006, both being a part of the Williamsburg Live Songwriter Competition 2006 event. BrightSky spoke about the song and Del Rey's involvement:[1]
- "It is her on the backing vox. I wasn't happy with my background vocals so I asked her to step in and she didn't disappoint. We've never done anything else together. Honestly, I haven't seen or spoken with Lizzy in a few years. I lost track of what she was up to until a mutual friend of ours let me know she had just performed SNL."
Live performance[]
BrightSky and Del Rey performed the song together for the only known time at Galapagos Art Space in New York City on November 16, 2006. The performance was a part of Jezebel's Coverfest. It is unknown if this performance was recorded.

Lyrics[]
Delicate and fragile, he was charming, I was agile
And I don't want him back, but I do
So easily broken, this thing that we built
Baby, I wasn't meant to go through this with you
And I don't understand
How we have done all we could do with this more than we can
And I don't understand
Two different people can live inside of one man
There is a dark part of us
A place that collects all the dust
A door to a room we keep
Locked up tight, tight, tight
And there is a switch on the wall
Controls the lamp in the hall
I think that we turn on the light, light, light
And unlock the door (And unlock the door)
To let ourselves in
Now I am glued to the floor
I am alone and the air I'm breathing is getting thin
Delicate and fragile, he was charming, I was agile
And I don't want him back, but I do
So easily broken, this thing that we built
Baby, I wasn't meant to go through this with you
And how does this love translate?
How does this love translate?
How does this love translate into this lover's fate?
Lover's fate (Mhm, mhm)
There is a dark part of us
A place that collects all the dust
A door to a room we keep locked up tight, tight, tight
And there is a switch on the wall
Controls the lamp in the hall
I think that we turn on the light, light, light
And unlock the door (And unlock the door)
To let ourselves in
But now I am glued to the floor
I am alone and I'm getting thin
Delicate and fragile, he was charming, I was agile
And I don't want him back, but I do
How does this love translate?
How does this love translate?
How does this love translate into this lover's fate?
Lover's fate
Lover's fate
Lover's fate
Delicate and fragile, he was charming, I was agile
And I don't want him back, but I do
