"Lost at Sea" is a song by Rob Grant featuring Lana Del Rey. It serves as the title track of his first studio album. The song was released on June 1, 2023, as the album's fifth single.

Background and writing[]

On February 23, 2023, Rob Grant announced his debut album Lost at Sea, alongside the lead single "Setting Sail on a Distant Horizon".[1] Two songs featuring his daughter, Lana Del Rey, were included on the tracklist: the title track, and "Hollywood Bowl".

Grant described the process of writing and recording the song on his website.[2] Influenced by Del Rey's work on her ninth studio album, he would record himself playing piano at her home in Los Angeles and shared the recordings with engineer Laura Sisk. Sisk then recorded Grant playing the songs in the studio, which led to Jack Antonoff becoming involved as well. Grant went on to record three more songs with Del Rey and Sisk - one of them being "Lost at Sea".

Grant explained that the writing process for the track was similar to the Blue Banisters track "Sweet Carolina", co-written by Del Rey, Grant, Alana Champion, and Del Rey's sister and Grant's youngest daughter, Chuck Grant. Del Rey listened to Grant play, and was inspired to write accompanying lyrics. Grant noted the song was recorded "in one or two takes". Much of the lyrics were ad-libbed "as though the song [wrote] itself".[2]

Lyrics[]

Once you told me, "look for the North Star, then you'll see"
Heavenly, I hear, found my way to the beach
And there were waves over me, I was lost at sea
'Til you found me, 'til you found me
Ha-ha-ha-ha, happily
Happily, happily, I was found lost at sea
Ah, ah, mm, oh
Lost at sea

Happily, happily, I was found lost at sea
Ah, ah, mm, oh
Lost at sea
