"Let Me Love You like a Woman" (originally interpolated from "Pink Champagne") is a song written by Lana Del Rey and Jack Antonoff, and produced by the latter. It is the first single from Del Rey's seventh studio album and sixth major-label studio album, Chemtrails over the Country Club. The song was released on October 16, 2020.
Background[]
The phrases "pink champagne" and "purple rain" were first mentioned by Del Rey in the caption of an Instagram post from June 22, 2015.[1]
The title "Let Me Love You like a Woman" was revealed in an interview with Q magazine on October 21, 2019. Del Rey was discussing how her song titles influence her album production process:[2]
- "It's the words that make me feel confident about the next [album]. Every now and then one long phrase will come to me. Like, 'Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me to Have', 'Will You Still Love Me When I'm No Longer Young and Beautiful'... I have no idea where they're going to go, but objectively I'm, like, 'Oof, I want to fill it in.' So I have three of those [songs for the next album]. One in particular, 'Let Me Love You like a Woman', there's just something about it. I feel like it's going to be really important, but I don't know why yet. That's where the magic comes in."
On July 25, 2020, an insider on ATRL commented that the song had "made it" to the track list of Del Rey's upcoming album.[3] Just over a month later on September 1, Del Rey announced via Instagram that the song would be released as a single prior to the release of the album.[4] On October 11, the song began to be recognized by music identification app Shazam.
The song was released worldwide on October 16, 2020, accompanied by a homemade music video. In the caption of her social media posts announcing the releases, Del Rey wrote, "Made a little homemade video for let me love you like a woman. Feels so good to have my favorite song out in the open air XOXO".[5]

"Pink Champagne" demo[]
The pre-chorus, chorus, and post-chorus of "Let Me Love You like a Woman" are heavily reworked from "Pink Champagne", a song recorded in 2013 and originally meant for release on Del Rey's scrapped third studio album, before it would become Ultraviolence. It has also been said to be an outtake of Ultraviolence itself.[S 1] The title "Pink Champagne" can be seen in a January 2013 photo of Del Rey in the studio, with her written notes partially visible in the background.[6]
The song leaked in full on March 28, 2023; the file was titled "Let me love you like a woman". Though the producer of the track is unknown, it is said to have the same producer as "Madly".[S 1] "Pink Champagne" was recorded on October 23, 2013.[S 2]
Live performances[]
On December 14, 2020, Del Rey performed "Let Me Love You Like a Woman" for the first time on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. This prerecorded performance was Del Rey's first televised appearance since 2012. Accompanying Del Rey in the video were Byron Thomas, Benji Lysaght, Zach Dawes, a session drummer, and the background singers credited in "Summertime The Gershwin Version": Tata Vega, Melodye Perry, and Kenna Ramsey.
Del Rey recorded another performance of the song in support of the 7th Annual Ally Coalition Talent Show, which took place on December 21, 2020.
