"Kinda Outta Luck" (or "Kinda Out of Luck") is an unreleased song by Lana Del Rey recorded in 2010. The song was written and produced by Lana Del Rey, Joe Henson and Alexis Smith. It received many positive reviews during her rise with "Video Games" during the summer of 2011. It is registered on ASCAP and ISWC as "Kinda Out of Luck" but was released on YouTube by Del Rey as "Kinda Outta Luck".

Background

A demo of the song called "Born Bad Baby" leaked on January 22, 2015, featuring a home-recorded second verse and bridge. A slightly different, third version of the song leaked on August 15, 2016 in lossless form, made from unleaked stems of the track. The isolated stem of a group of girls shouting the bridge was leaked on the same day.

Use in media

On September 6th, 2011, the song was used for the commercial of the TV Series Gossip Girl for the episode "Yes, Then Zero".

Cross-references

  • The lyrics directly reference "Dangerous Girl" and "Get Drunk".
  • The lyrics also mention the unconfirmed song title "Kindness of Strangers", also found in "Carmen".

Lyrics

Final

I was born bad
But then I met you
You made me nice for a while
But my dark side's true

He never cared what I did at all
Motel singer or the silver pole
I did what I had to do

Femme fatale
Always on the run
Diamonds on my wrist
Whiskey on my tongue

Before I do bad
I gotta get drunk
So get over here
Pour me a cold one

Babe, you can see that I'm danger
Teetering off of the stage, yeah
Sparkling in sequins, say hey, yeah
Time to give in to the kindness of strangers

Is it wrong, wrong
That I think it's kind of fun
When I hit you in the back of the head with a gun
Now daddy's in the trunk of his brand new truck
I really want him back but flat outta luck

Is it wrong, wrong
That I think it's kind of fun
When I hit you in the back of the head with a gun
Now daddy's in the trunk of his brand new truck
I really want him back but I'm kinda outta luck

Wrong, I know
Killing someone
It gets a little easier
When you've done it once

You know that I'm fine
You know that I'm young
So tell me you're mine
Let's get it on

Babe, you can see that I'm danger
Glamorous but I'm deranged, yeah
Teetering off of the stage, yeah
I said it really nicely
Hey, can you be my savior

Is it wrong, wrong
That I think it's kind of fun
When I hit you in the back of the head with a gun
Now daddy's in the trunk of his brand new truck
I really want him back but I'm flat outta luck

Is it wrong, wrong
That I think it's kind of fun
When I hit you in the back of the head with a gun
Now daddy's in the trunk of his brand new truck
I really want him back but I'm kinda outta luck

I was a dangerous girl
You were too nice for this world
And now I'm back on the prowl
Who wants to give it a whirl

Is it wrong, wrong
That I think it's kind of fun
When I hit you in the back of the head with a gun
Now daddy's in the trunk of his brand new truck
I really want him back but I'm flat outta luck

Is it wrong, wrong
That I think it's kind of fun
When I hit you in the back of the head with a gun
Now daddy's in the trunk of his brand new truck
I really want him back but I'm kinda outta luck

I love you, my little darling
You, my little darling
You, my little darling
You, my little darling

Dancing on top of the tables
Stronger, I wish I was able
Someone spilled blood, I'm not capable
I gotta get you back, 'cause I gotta live, devil
