"Hollywood Bowl" is a song by Rob Grant featuring Lana Del Rey from his first studio album Lost at Sea. It was released on June 8, 2023, as the album's sixth single.

Background and writing[]

On February 23, 2023, Rob Grant announced his debut album Lost at Sea, alongside the lead single "Setting Sail on a Distant Horizon".[1] Two songs featuring his daughter, Lana Del Rey, were included on the tracklist: the album's title track, and "Hollywood Bowl".

In a post on his blog, Grant would write:[2]

"There's a beautiful song towards the end of this album that my daughter and I wrote together. It's called 'Hollywood Bowl' and it tells a story… an origin story. The piano is so beautiful and the vocals are so powerful and sweeping. The night we recorded that song, I remember listening to the first playback and then looking at Lana and Laura… feeling almost stunned… and they both were smiling. I knew then we had something magical."

Lyrics[]

I know I'm not Joni Mitchell
But I've got a dad who plays like Billy Joel
I know I can't see the whole picture
But I like to dream about my days of gold

I've got a swimming pool, I like to float on the surface
And think about all of my memories of old
Oh, those days of old

Twice I sang at the Hollywood Bowl
And my dad plays just like Billy Joel
And I'm young when I'm old and I'm old when I'm young when I'm old
At the whims of my heart and my soul

I don't think of myself as special
But I like to live my life colorful and bold

I've got a swimming pool, I like to float on the surface
And think of the stories I've already sold, oh
I've got a feeling, I've got a memory
Why wait for Heavеn when I can have Heavеn right here like I'm told?
Oh, just like I'm told

Twice I sang at the Hollywood Bowl
And my dad plays just like Billy Joel
And I'm young when I'm old and I'm old when I'm young when I'm old
And I'll follow wherever you go

Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
I've got a swimming pool
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
I like to float away
Ooh, ahh
