The song gets its title from Greenwich Village, a neighborhood located on the west side of Lower Manhattan, New York City, where Del Rey used to live in the early days of her career.
A demo, titled "Greenwich Acid", leaked on April 1, 2023. This version of the song was included on a 20-track demo compilation put together by Del Rey in March 2009, titled Demo March 2009. An alternate, more finalized version of the song leaked as "Platinum Greenwich" on December 20, 2023. This version was supposedly sourced directly from Del Rey's Myspace account.[S 2]
