Relationship with Lana Del Rey[]

On March 8, 2018, Marina Diamandis tweeted a photograph with Lana Del Rey and FKA Twigs.[1] Other photos of the same night show the three joined by Florence Welch.

On May 21, 2020, Del Rey published a controversial open letter titled "Question for the Culture", where she repudiated criticisms of themes of domestic violence and sex work within her music as "glamorizing abuse" by comparing the favourable commercial and critical response towards artists such as Beyoncé, Doja Cat and Ariana Grande, whose work she characterized as being "about being sexy, wearing no clothes, fucking, cheating etc" [sic]. In response to the backlash to this letter, which many saw as racially insensitive for unfairly targeting women of color, who made up six of the seven female artists mentioned, and tone-deaf for lamenting that there was no "place in feminism for women who look and act like [Del Rey]", Del Rey posted a six minute video to Instagram. Within this video, she addressed this latter comment with reference to FKA Twigs, stating:

"When I mentioned women who 'look like me,' I didn't mean white like me, I mean the kind of women who, you know, other people might not believe. The difference is, when I get on the pole, people call me a whore, but when [FKA] Twigs gets on the pole, it's art."

This comment was reported to have "infuriated" fans of FKA Twigs,[2] who subsequently unfollowed Del Rey.[3]
