"Cry Me a River" is a popular torch song written by Arthur Hamilton in 1953 made famous by Julie London's rendition in 1955. Other notable artists to record the song include Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Lesley Gore, and Michael Bublé.

Cover version[]

A cover of the song by Lana Del Rey leaked on August 6, 2015. ID3 tags in the original leaked file suggest it was recorded in 2011. Del Rey's version of the song is directly inspired by Bublé's rendition, and uses said version's instrumental.

Del Rey performed the song live while celebrating guitarist Blake Stranathan's birthday at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California on March 8, 2019, with longtime touring pianist Byron Thomas and Stranathan's girlfriend Nikki.[1]

Lyrics[]

Now you say you're lonely
You cried the whole night through
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river, honey
I cried a river over you, over you, over you

Now you say you're sorry
For bein' so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river, baby
'Cause I cried a river over you

You drove me, nearly drove me, right out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me you was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and

Now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Come on, boy, cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you

Now you say you're lonely
You cried the whole night through
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river, baby
I cried a river over you

Now you say you're sorry
For bein' so untrue, oh
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
