"Cruel World" is a song by Lana Del Rey. It was written by Del Rey and Blake Stranathan, and serves as the opening track from Del Rey's second major-label album, Ultraviolence. The song was performed as an intro to "Cola" on her 2014 North American tour.

Background

On April 19, 2014, during a show at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, Del Rey revealed the song, calling it her favorite from the album. She performed a snippet of the song before opening the show with "Cola". In an interview with radio station 96.5TIC, Del Rey revealed how she wrote the song with her guitarist Blake Stranathan.
