Background and live performances

On May 17, 2017, Del Rey posted a video to her Instagram page of a rehearsal to an unknown song, but deleted it right after. She then posted another video of the same rehearsal session with the caption "When you're chatting through the verses but snap back into it for the chorus. See u Saturday".[1] On May 20, 2017, Del Rey premiered the song by performing it live for the very first time at the KROQ Weenie Roast in Carson, California, and also confirmed the title to be "Cherry".[2] On May 27, 2017, Del Rey performed the song live again at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Hull, United Kingdom. Another snippet of the song was used in a behind the scenes video of the 2017 V magazine photoshoot shot by Steven Klein.

Lyrics

Darlin'
I said real love
It's like feeling no fear
When you're standing in the face of danger
'Cause you just want it so much
A touch
From your real love
It's like heaven taking the place of something evil
And lettin' it burn off from the rush
Yeah, yeah
(Fuck)

And darlin', darlin', darlin'
I fall to pieces when I'm with you
I fall to pieces
My cherries and wine
Rosemary and thyme
And all of my peaches (are ruined)

I said real love
It's like smiling when the firing squad's against you
But you just stay lined up
Yeah, yeah

'Cause darlin', darlin', darlin'
I fall to pieces when I'm with you
I fall to pieces
My cherries and wine
Rosemary and thyme
And all of my peaches (are ruined)

My rose garden dreams
And all my life needs
And all my black beaches (are ruined)
My celluloid scenes
Are torn at the seams
And I fall to pieces
I fall to pieces
When I'm with you

(Why)
'Cause I love you so much
I fall to pieces
My cherries and wine
Rosemary and thyme
And all of my peaches (are ruined)

(Are ruined)
(Are ruined)
Mmm
And I fall to pieces
