"Catch and Release" is an unreleased song by Lana Del Rey. It was recorded in 2009 and the unmixed version leaked on July 13, 2013. The song was co-written and produced by Princess Superstar. The song is registered on ASCAP.[1]
Background[]
The song was recorded in Princess Superstar's in-home recording studio in an apartment on the lower east side of East Village, New York City called Red Square.[2] The song interpolates a sample of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" by the Beatles; the song's instrumental was originally named "Beatles Fun House Party". According to Princess Superstar, Del Rey had written the song about a record label executive who had dumped her.[3]
The track was registered alongside "Maha Maha", "Live Forever (Golden Grill)" and "Moi Je Joue" in 2014. The mixed version of the song leaked on February 22, 2014, with only slight differences; the most notable being the uncut ending.
