"All About Ethel" is an upcoming song by Lana Del Rey, currently set as the thirteenth track from her upcoming tenth studio album Stove. The song was recorded in 2022,[S 1] and is produced by Jack Antonoff.
Background[]
A tagged snippet of the song leaked alongside a preview of G-Eazy's "Won Me Over", which features Del Rey, on September 2, 2023. The song's official title was revealed on June 28, 2024. Lyrics from the song leaked on July 2 and September 30, 2024, and later on August 14, 2025.[S 2] Del Rey shared a clip of the song on Instagram on August 13, 2025, announcing its inclusion on her upcoming album and revealing Jack Antonoff as the producer.[1]
The song is a "diss track" directed towards singer-songwriter Ethel Cain, stemming from her relationship with Jack Donoghue and past comments Cain has made about Del Rey. Del Rey sings about Cain posting a similar photo[2] as she did with Donoghue in front of the Cook County Jail,[3] and references a 2022 article about Ethel Cain by The New York Times which is titled, "Ethel Cain Is the Most Famous Person at the Waffle House".[4] Del Rey went viral in 2023 for pretending to work a shift at a Waffle House in Florence, Alabama. Donoghue and Antonoff are both mentioned by name in the track.[S 2]
In the comment section of an Instagram post announcing the song, Del Rey explained some more about its writing:[5]
- "I didn't know who Ethel was until a few years ago - when someone brought to my attention the disturbing and graphic side-by-side images she would often put up of me next to unflattering creatures and cartoon characters making constant comments about my weight, I was confused at what she was getting at. Then when I heard what she was saying behind closed doors from mutual friends and started inserting herself into my personal life I was definitely disturbed."
The title of the song may be a reference to the Best Picture-winning 1950 film All About Eve, a film about an aging Broadway star whose inner circle and professional life become infiltrated by an unrelenting ingénue.
Critical reception[]
Rapper Nicki Minaj took to Twitter Spaces to praise the catchiness of the opening line of the clip Del Rey posted. She said:[6][7]
- "Now, who heard ['All About Ethel'] because, yo, when I tell you, that song has been stuck in my head - [sings] - I don't know what is going on, but...something about it puts me in this...Lana can say anything and it sounds so dope. I've wanted to say [the opening line] since the moment I heard it. It's something that I don't know what they put in that song."
- "[Sings] - Let me tell you something, that one song just made me say, 'oh no, I am going into Lana's discography and I am listening to every single song'. Y'all, when I woke up today just hearing that thing in my head, it made me feel so...it's a period piece, you know, it puts me back in a different time."

Lyrics[]
[Snippet]:
Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post
Think it's cute reenacting my Chicago pose
Hard to roll in slow motion
Hard to say no to cau-caution
Hard to stop and it's like an ocean
Not afraid to say I'm going down in flames
The most famous girl at the Waffle House
I don't regret it
The most famous girl at the Waffle House
My best friend's grandfather invented the design
How could I be afraid to hide the shine?
It follows me wherever I go
I'm as famous at a show as I am on the Florida-Alabama line
[Leaked snippet]:
I was patient without no explainin' who I was
'Cause I never had to play the game
Not ashamed to say I'm going down in flames
And I
[Leaked lyrics]:
By the way, Jack said don't call him
And take the other Jack's name out your phone
