"A Star for Nick" is a song by Lana Del Rey, written and recorded under the moniker May Jailer. It serves as the third track from her 2006 unreleased acoustic album Sirens. The track was later included on Del Rey's 2007 mixtape The Phenomena of Lizzy Grant.

Background[]

The song was uploaded to Del Rey's Myspace profile in 2006 under the name Lizzy Grant.[1] The song resurfaced on December 16, 2011, when it was discovered to have been played on episode 154 of New York-based online radio broadcast Nefarious Bovine Radio in 2008.[2] A higher quality file of the song leaked on April 12, 2012, and its file from the Sirens CD on May 31, which leaked along with the rest of the album.

The song is said to have been written about British singer-songwriter Nick Drake, one of Del Rey's musical influences. Unlike most of the songs on Sirens, it features added reverb. In the comment section of an unauthorized 2011 upload of the song to YouTube, Del Rey wrote from her official account: "This is from when i was 17. have no idea where u got it from".[3]

The song has been said to have a different version with extra lyrics.[S 1]

Lyrics[]

Well, you know it and I know it, I'm gonna be a star
You won't, you won't get me very far
Don't say hello, it's already time to go

Oh, the wind is carryin'
Me home, me home, me home again

Well, you know it and I know it, I'm gonna be a star
You won't, you won't get me very far
You're so alive, back in the countryside

Ahh

Oh, my soul, rise up and go
Beyond, beyond to what you know
